Adult eating disorder service is community based service that provides assessment and time limited treatment of persons from the age of 17 and 6 months resident within the southern trust. We treat people with Anorexia, Bulimia and OSFED. Treatment is based on psychological therapies of CBT-E, MANTRA, EMDR, motivational interviewing. Treatment is provided by MDT team including Consultant Psychiatrist, Mental health Nurses, Social workers, dietitian and physician associate.
We accept referrals of all levels of severity directly to the eating disorder team. Persons are expected to attend clinic on at least weekly basis in the initial phase of treatment. Treatment is reviewed on a regular basis in terms of effectiveness and progress towards change. For those needing more intensive supports we admit locally to our mental health inpatient unit Bluestone for supportive re-feeding. Care from the community team continues during inpatient admission with Consultant and keyworker as part of the inpatient MDT.
The Eating Disorder Service is not commissioned to treat Binge Eating Disorder, food phobias, psychogenic disturbance of appetite, selective eating or loss of appetite due to physical illness
