Emergency Surgical Unit

Description

The Emergency Surgical Unit (EmSU) is an ambulatory surgical unit designed to improve efficiency of care for patients suffering from urgent general surgical conditions. 

For those patients deemed to have an acute surgical related condition, needing access to surgical
specialists, the EmSU phone-line provides a new route to assessment that will reduce the burden
on Emergency Departments and improve the patient’s treatment journey.

Referral Criteria

Patients > 16yrs old
We are happy to accept queries regarding paediatric patients but the patient may be
directed to ED for assessment.

Patients assessed by Primary Care with an acute General Surgical condition requiring input from a surgical specialist. 

Suitable Presentations: 

  • Tender Hernia
  • RUQ Pain
  • Perianal Abscess
  • Post-operative Complications
  • Superficial Abscess
  • RIF Pain
