Orthopaedic ICATS

Description

The Orthopaedic ICATS service (Integrated Clinical Assessment and Treatment Service) is a Trustwide multi-disciplinary service consisting of Specialist GPs, Specialist Physiotherapists and Specialist Podiatrists. The role of ICATS is to assess, diagnose and manage any Orthopaedic problems, in patients over the age of 16, to ensure the patient sees the right clinician in the right place at the right time.

Referral Criteria

Over 16 years old with Musculoskeletal pain / dysfunction that has not responded to primary care management.

Suggested Investigations (Actions Prior to Referral):

Relevant detail of past medical history including information on previous treatment / intervention. Ensure appropriate investigations such as X-ray have been undertaken prior to referral - the result should be read prior to referral to ensure that the referral is appropriate. Consider full primary care management - use of core physiotherapy / core podiatry / medicines management / exercise advice and self help leaflets.

Patient Preparation:

Bring up to date medication list.
Bring copies of any private investigations / treatment.
If the patient is on Warfarin - a recent INR result is helpful.

Exclusions :

Under 16 years.
Acute fractures
Red Flag conditions / presentations/ infection
Cauda Equina presentations
